The thrilling extended clash where the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise over last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.
